NEW FACES AT 620

By BOB KOVACH

Thought I'd get your attention! Actually, on July 25 there was

an attempt to remake some old faces as Judy Harmon of NEW WORLD conducted a Skin Seminar. Bartenders John Bangles and Tony were the eager models upon whose faces Judy worked her magic. And guess what? It worked! Both John and Tony claimed that the process left their faces feeling both relaxed and invigorated. You could even see the difference under the bright stage lights. The seminar was filled with informative and helpful tips on skin care, including sun tan dangers. Volunteers from the audience were also recruited on stage for specific examples and demonstrations. All in all it was unique evening and a pleasant alternative to the usual Monday evening.

I PICK PIQUA

By Bob Kovach

Like most of you, I'm sure I never even heard of Piqua, Ohio, until I was setting up the ad for The Water Main last month and noting all the planned activities, decided to pay a visit. I had no idea that such a gold mine existed in Ohio. Although it's 3 1/2 hours from Cleveland, it is well worth the trip. I purposely waited a few weeks before writing this article to see if my enthusiasm would die down. But it hasn't so here goes.

The Water Main is the only Gay Bar in town. It is run by Lowell Armstrong and Fred Werlig who have been lovers for the past 7 years. One of the first things that impresses one from out of town is the fact that the bar starts to get crowded at 8 p.m.! And talk about friendly! Those people come up to you and introduce themselves and immediately make you feel at home. (Not just because we were from High Gear either.) The bartenders, as well as the patrons were all goodlooking,

too.

The night that we were there they had a "Miss Water Main" contest won by Jerry Lee (as: Cher), and a "Mister Water Main" contest won by Steve. One of my favorite locals is a woman named "Daddy Jean" Ryan who took it upon herself to be the self-appointed ambassador from Piqua.

Needless to say we had the time of our lives. So if you want to spend a super weekend, not far away, and have both your ego and faith in your fellow Gay boosted, I would pick Piqua over any other city in Ohio. We reluctantly left Piqua as one would an old friend. One side note to this story is that my favorite Piquan. an ex-bartender at the Water Main is now residing in Cleveland, bringing a bit of Piqua gold north.
